Dear Elspeth
Earlier this week I found your account, from last October, of the Bookhouse years.
– It’s really fantastic to read such lovely details, after all these years. Neil’s ‘Poetry on the left under the staircase’ was my favourite too and I’ve so many good memories of that time.
Please give my very best wishes to all of your family and especially to Iris: I think she’ll smile to hear that I’m still at the Uni., and still playing guitar. I’m forever grateful to Iris for creating such a creative and cultural hub, for so many different people, in the heart of 1980s Newcastle.
Kind regards
Mick Wright
Mick, how lovely to hear from you. We all have a lot of good memories of your guitar playing in The Bookhouse. Iris still has a painting of you in action, next to the spiral stairs. I’m so glad to hear that you found this article, that you are still playing and still at the Uni! I have forwarded your message to her.
Warm wishes,
Elspeth
Dear Elspeth,
I hope you and the family are well. I just wanted to share some good news. Newcastle Uni. have put me on their PhD pass list, yesterday, for Doctor of Music, and this has a great deal to do with working for so long in Iris’ bookshop (for most of the 1980s). Would you please pass on my thanks and best wishes to her; I still remember how pleased she was when I got my BA way back in 1984! I think I’m going to follow your lead and go back to using a pen and ink again now!
Kind regards,
Mick
That’s fantastic Mick. I’m very pleased! I’ll tell Iris.
Thanks for letting me know.
